Twins reinstate Michael Pineda from 10-day injured list

Luis Arraez placed on 10-day Injured List

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN â€“ The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have reinstated right-handed pitcher Michael Pineda from the 10-day Injured List and placed infielder/outfielder Luis Arraez on the 10-day Injured List with a right shoulder strain (retro May 24).

Pineda, who was placed on the Injured List with an abscess, has started seven games for the Twins this season, going 2-2 with a 2.79 ERA (38.2 IP, 12 ER), 10 walks, 39 strikeouts, a .204 opponent batting average and a 1.01 WHIP. The right-hander ranks seventh in the American League in WHIP and 12th in opponent batting average (minimum 35.0 innings pitched). He will make the start this afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles.

Arraez has missed the Twins’ last two games after suffering the injury on Saturday in Cleveland, on a headfirst slide into second base in the top of the first inning. He has hit .277 (39-for-141) with three doubles, one triple, one home run, 14 RBI, 20 runs scored, 17 walks and a .358 on-base percentage in 39 games this season.

Mets acquire OF Billy McKinney from Milwaukee

FLUSHING, N.Y., – The New York Mets today announced they have acquired outfielder Billy McKinney from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league left-handed pitcher Pedro Quintana. RHP Jordan Yamamoto has been transferred to the 60-Day IL to make room on the 40-man roster.

McKinney has appeared in 40 games for the Brewers this season and is batting .207/.260/.359 with nine runs, three doubles, a triple, three home runs, six RBI and a stolen base. He has played 20 games in the outfield and nine games at first base this season.

In 84 games as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019, the Dallas, TX native collected 12 home runs, 14 doubles and 28 RBI.

The 26-year-old was originally drafted in the first round (24th overall) by the Oakland Athletics in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. He has appeared in parts of four seasons with the New York Yankees (2018), Blue Jays (2019-2020) and the Brewers (2021). He is a career .226/.285/.422 hitter with 61 runs scored, 24 doubles, two triples, 21 home runs and 47 RBI in 164 major league games.

Quintana, 17, was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on January 15, 2021.

D-backs recall Jon Duplantier from Triple-A Reno; place Taylor Widener on 10-day injured list

Red Sox reinstate infielder Christian Arroyo from 10-day injured list

BOSTON, MA  – The Boston Red Sox today returned infielder Christian Arroyo from his injury rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Worcester and reinstated him from the 10-day injured list.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Arroyo, 25, was placed on the injured list with a left hand contusion on May 9, retroactive to May 7. In three rehab games with Worcester—including two starts at second base—he went 1-for-10 with one double and one walk. The right-handed hitter has batted .275 (19-for-69) with a .710 OPS in 23 games for the Red Sox this season, making each of his 18 starts at second base. Claimed off waivers from Cleveland on August 13, 2020, Arroyo has appeared in 108 major league games with San Francisco (2017), Tampa Bay (2018-19), Cleveland (2020), and Boston (2020-21).
