March Madness Pick: Miami vs Houston
I’m always searching for reasons to bet the underdog. As you know Miami is a 7.5 underdog tonight.
The first reason I stumbled upon was looking at how the Cougars have performed against the spread this year.
For the season, Houston is 19-17 ATS.
However, the Cougars started the year as a great team ATS, and somewhere along the way, the sportsbooks got wise as to how good this team actually is.
The Cougars started the year 7-2 ATS
Since December 10th, the Cougars are 24-3 straight up
Over those 27 games, Houston is just 12-15 ATS (44%)
Anyone who had blindly bet on the Cougars to cover the point spread over their last 27 games would be down (-15%) ROI. A negative ROI is a disappointing return for a team with an 89% win percentage (straight up) over 27 games.
It’s Hurricane Season
Meanwhile, Miami against the spread is trending in a much different direction than the Cougars are.
Miami started the season just 2-4 ATS
Since their 2-4 start, the Hurricanes are 18-10 ATS (64%)
If you had blindly bet the ‘Canes to cover in their last 28 games, you would be up 23% ROI.
Miami As An Underdog
Against Houston, Miami is a +7.5 Underdog tonight. For the season, the Hurricanes are 7-2 ATS when getting points and have managed to win five of those nine games outright.
I don’t know about you, but I will be taking Miami +7.5.
A Miami cover against the Cougars tonight means I will sleep more soundly than the Houston business man (Mattress Mack) who has 3.5 million on the Cougars to win it all.
