MBB-FCS: ETSU Buccaneers (10-18) at Furman Paladins (21-7)

The ETSU men’s basketball team plays its final regular season road game Sunday when the Buccaneers travel to Greenville, S.C. to take on Furman. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside Timmons Arena and the game will be televised on ESPNU.


·         ETSU sits at 10-18 overall and 6-9 in league play

·         The Bucs are coming off a heartbreaking 68-66 setback at Western Carolina on Wednesday night … The Bucs scored 18 of the final 26 points but couldn’t knock down a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer as the Catamounts held on for the win and series sweep

·         After winning its first four SoCon road games, ETSU has dropped its last four

·         With Jordan King (Albany, N.Y.) going 10-for-10 at the free throw line on Wednesday night, he now ranks second in the conference in free throw percentage (.840) … King is just one of five Buccaneers to shoot 100% at the free throw line with a minimum of 10 attempts since the start of the 2010-11 season and the first since Daivien Williamson did so exactly three years ago to the date at VMI … Williamson was 11-for-11

·         To go with his 10 made free throws, King led all scorers with 23 points on Wednesday night, marking his 15th career game scoring at least 20 points

·         ETSU has made at least one three-pointer in 1,120 straight games – the fourth-longest streak in the country


  • Furman features an overall record of 21-7 and a SoCon mark of 12-3
  • The Paladins had their eight-game win streak snapped Wednesday night when Furman fell at The Citadel, 69-65
  • Furman’s other two SoCon losses have been to Western Carolina and UNCG
  • The Paladins rank No. 10 in the Mid-Major Top 25 Poll
  • Furman is led by Mike Bothwell and Jalen Slawson as they have accounted for 41 percent of its scoring … Bothwell leads the team in scoring (18.0), field goals made (176) and free throws made (112) … Slawson is averaging 15.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.6 blocks
  • Marcus Foster leads the team in made three-pointers (54) as he’s averaging 10.9 points, while JP Pegues is at 10.5 points per game
  • As a team, Furman is averaging 82.2 points per game and allowing 70.5
  • Furman ranks nationally in a handful of statistical categories: fourth in assists per game (18.0), ninth in effective field goal percentage (.565), 11th in assist/turnover ratio (1.56) and scoring offense (82.2), 14th in three-pointers per game (9.8), 16th in field goal percentage (.485) and 19th in scoring margin (+11.5)
  • Since the start of the 2019-20 season, Furman is 49-7 at home


·         ETSU leads the all-time series, 34-32

·         Furman defeated the Bucs 70-56 back in January inside Freedom Hall

·         Since the Bucs returned to the league in 2014-15, neither team has swept the regular season series (Furman’s last sweep came in 1986-87)

·         The Paladins own an 18-10 record in games played in Greenville, while winning seven of the last eight and 10 of the last 13

·         Since rejoining the SoCon in 2014-15, ETSU is 1-7 at Furman … The Bucs are being outscored 72.6 to 62.6 in those eight games … The Bucs’ last win inside Timmons Arena was a 62-61 victory on Jan. 18, 2018 when Desonta Bradford hit a floater in the lane with 4.5 seconds remaining
